The Love Effect is a worldwide movement to teach, inspire and put love into action, in ourselves, our relationships, our schools, our workplaces and our communities.
Love Yourself
Recognize your worth and build confidence.
Love Others
Practice connection and find meaningful relationships.
Teach Love
Bring appreciation into schools, homes and workplaces.
Share Love
Turn kindness, generosity and laughter into action.
The movement
Love is something we can learn, practice, teach and share.
A compliment can change someone's day. A child who learns to recognize another person's value may grow into an adult who treats people differently. A workplace that teaches appreciation becomes a better place to work. Every Monday, The Love Effect posts one small ripple challenge anyone can do, and invites people to share what happened.

How compliments work
Most of us were never taught how to give a compliment, or how to receive one.
What a compliment really is
A compliment is telling someone something true and specific that you noticed about them, and why it mattered. It was already true before you said it. You're just the one who finally said it.
The three kinds of compliments
I Notice You!
Personal
About who someone is: their kindness, patience, courage, humor and how they make people feel.
"You notice when someone goes quiet and you bring them back in. People feel safe around you."
I Appreciate You!
Acknowledgment
About something someone did for you or for others, especially the things nobody is supposed to see.
"You stayed late Thursday to get that out. It cost you your evening, and I noticed."
What an Accomplishment!
Accomplishment
About a goal reached or a hard thing done. Praise the effort, and bring in everyone who helped.
"You didn't give up on that problem, even when it got frustrating. That's what got you there."
People can tell the difference, every time
Feels fake
Feels sincere
"You're the best!"
"You stayed calm with that upset customer and turned him around. That's why people ask for you."
"Great job today."
"You caught the mistake on page four before it went out. That saved us a week."
"You're amazing, so can you cover Saturday?"
"You've covered for this team three times this month. I noticed, and thank you."
The sincerity check
Is it true? Only say what you mean.
Is it specific? Name what you noticed and why it matters.
Is it free? No favor attached, nothing expected back.
Would you say it when they're not in the room?
How to receive one, in four steps
1
Smile. Let your face show it landed.
2
Say "Thank you." With no "but."
3
Believe it. If it weren't true, they wouldn't have said it.
4
Take it in. Replay the feeling later.
Giving a compliment is kindness. Receiving one is kindness, too.complimentsforchange.com
